Athena is a quiet natured, introverted individual who cares deeply for those around her. Despite being the centre of attention a lot of the time, Athena prefers to take a step back from the limelight. She is shy, but extremely friendly when approached, and always willing to lend a hand to those in need. She's a bit of a bookworm, so you'll often find her scouring local bookshops and libraries - most of the time, she is searching for any tome about magic.Whilst deeply empathetic and caring, Athena has a major flaw of not putting herself first, brought on by the pressure of being the Warrior of Light. This can often lead to Athena keeping things inside, and struggling to express her own feelings. After the events of 5.3, and struggling to deal with the trauma of the light sickness, Athena became extremely distant, and put on a mask of being cold and callous. Deep inside, she was screaming for help, but the pressure of being the hero stopped her from seeking help for herself. As she learned to process and overcome her trauma, she is slowly learning to set boundaries, express her feelings and allowing herself to take care of herself first.

Hobbies

Athena's biggest hobby is reading. She loves nothing more than visiting an old bookshop, or even a library, to indulge her mind into different written works. There's nothing she finds more relaxing that getting yourself cozy under a blanket, with a book.Other than reading, Athena loves to cook and is quite good at it. She doesn't get a chance to cook often as the WoL, but post-Ew during her time on her island, she was cooking a lot more. Athena also picked up crocheting, and taught herself to make blankets.During her time on her island, she also picked up gardening, and she grows many different flowers around her home and island to take care of. She uses her own, handgrown flowers to make make bouquets.Athena picked up pictomancy in Dawntrail, however she mainly uses her abilities to do personal paintings. She often channels Azem's memories, and paints landscapes from the Unsundered world, as well as her own world. She uses painting as way to cope with her feelings, and too many a times she has caught herself painting a portrait of Emet-Selch.

The Echo and Blessing of LightAthena's Echo awakened in her young adult years, when she started peering into the past of people she met on the Steppe. She thought nothing of it, until she started having unusual dreams about a time much different to her own, yet inciting a sense of strong familiarity within her soul. It wasn't until her mid 20s that Athena set out to find answers. During her adventures, she discovered that she had a strong defense against the Primals' tempering, which lead her to become the Warrior of Light.PhysicalWhilst close combat is not Athena's speciality, Athena knows just how to get out of a sticky situation if she ever finds herself cornered. She can become extremely light footed, which makes her dodging skills remarkable, and makes it easy to slide her way out of a corner.Magical AttunementAthena's ability to control and manipulate aether in the form of magic exceeds that of most people in Eorzea, making her one of the most powerful mages as her journey goes on. She becomes exceptionally talented in all forms of magic once she starts training. Her preferred weapon to channel her magic is a grimoire.Bahamut's AetherDuring her investigation at the Carteaneu Flats, the lingering aether of Bahamut fused with Athena, triggering her Echo to show what really happened to Bahamut. Spurred on by this revelation, Athena joined Alisaie investigating the coils. After the investigation came to it's conclusion, the remnants of the Dreadwyrm's aether chose to remain within the Warrior of Light, amplifying her summoning abilities. Whilst Athena knew it was still there, she chose to ignore it, worried about if it could ever take over her.Because of the aether sitting within her, the other members of the First Brood would be able to sense the remnants of their brood brother. This made some members trust Athena more easily, whilst some members became more weary. The concern about Bahamut's essence grew as she watched Nidhogg take over Estinien during the events of Heavensward, despite the fact that Bahamut's aether never showed signs of controlling her.During the events of ShB, the Light corruption touched upon Bahamut's aether that was resting within her, unleashing part of it's potential when Athena almost turned into a Lightwarden. This pushed Athena away even more from the potential power within her, afraid it could choose to take over and she would lose her sense of self completely.During her brutal battle against Zenos in Ultima Thule, it came down to an 'all or nothing' fight to the death. Finally accepting the power that lay within her, Athena's own aether merged with Bahamut's, priming her with a sliver of the Dreadwyrm's power, at the cost of the severe depletion of her own aether. A risky trump card. After surviving the battle with Zenos, Athena's physical appearance would change to reflect her acceptance of holding Bahamut's power. The plus side, despite looking more draconic, Athena still held onto her sense of self and her will.

The Scions

ThancredAthena and Thancred are extremely close. He was the first Scion she was introduced to when she arrived in U'ldah and it was him who brought her to The Waking Sands after he discovered her unique abilities. As they grew closer, Thancred grew quite protective over Athena, and became almost like a fatherly figure to her. They always had a good laugh together, and confided in one another when needed. When Thancred found out about her secret relationship with Emet-Selch, it did not go down well at all due to his own dealings with Ascians. Tension grew between the two, which hurt Athena even more as she trusted Thancred a lot, even as she tried to explain to him that she saw a different side to Emet-Selch -Thancred would not listen. His reasoning spurred on by concern that Athena was just being manipulated by the Ascian. The tension between the two continued post- ShB, which would contribute to Athena's PTSD worsening as she felt she could no longer talk to one of the people she trusted most, and Thancred felt extreme guilt that he couldn't muster the courage to fix the rift that had grown between them. One morning, Thancred found out that Athena had defected from the Scions. Panicked, and overcome with shame and guilt, Thancred scoured every corner of Eorzea, his whole being filled with determination to find her and repair that rift that contributed to Athena's declining mental state. When Athena was trying to push everyone away during Endwalker, Thancred often clashed with her because of this. He would confront her a lot, which only caused her to argue back, but Thancred knew this was not the Athena he knew, and suspected she was pushing everyone away as part of a bigger issue. After Endwalker, Thancred made Athena promise that she would talk to someone rather than keep it all inside, and he became one of her top confidants.Thancred very much reminds Athena of her father, and that is part of the reason she trusts him a lot.

The TwinsThe Twins are very much the younger siblings Athena never had. Alphinaud and Alisaie very much see Athena as their big sister, and the 3 of them grow extremely close throughout their journey. Athena is very much a confidant to the both of them, even if they're nervous about telling the other.Despite Athena being older, the twins are also very protective of Athena, especially as they start to grow a sense of just how much being the WoL was having an affect on the Xaela; even though Athena did her best to hide it from them. Alisaie especially was extremely vocal about how Athena needed to take better care of herself as the journey went on.The twins took it the hardest when Athena defected; with Alisaie joining Thancred in his search and Alphinaud trying to ask anybody who might have seen her. During Endwalker, they didn't understand why Athena had changed so much personality wise, but Athena never had the heart to tell them what she was planning. After waking up from her almost death, Athena had strict orders to rest from the twins; their faces red and puffy as they thought they had lost Athena forever. Athena felt a lot of guilt having had put the twins through such heartbreak coming back from Ultima Thule in a near death state, so she promised she would, from now on, take better care of herself.Sometimes during disagreements between the twins, Athena often has to step in and be a mediator between the two, taking on that 'big sister' role very seriously.

EstinienEstinien and Athena didn't have the best start to their friendship due to Estinien's need for revenge against the dragons. Since Athena held a remanent of Bahamut's aether, and had a growing friendship with Midgarsormr, she felt the need to keep those a secret from the dragoon. She didn't necessarily see eye to eye with him in regards to plans of actions, and often had to become a mediator between him and Ysayle.Despite their differences, Athena still respected him, and vowed to help against Nidhogg. When Estinien fell to Nidhogg's control, Athena vowed to save him, to which he was extremely thankful for.It was watching Estinien lose himself to Nidhogg's power that scared Athena about her own powers with Bahamut. When she finally plucked up the courage to tell Estinien about Bahamut's power within her, he offered to help her train her mind and will so she would never have to fear said power, for he did the same with the remnants of Nidhogg's power after he was saved from the wyrm's control.Their friendship deepened through these training sessions, and they gained a better understanding of one another. Even as Athena accepted the power Bahamut had given and became more draconic looking, Estinien still highly respected her.

UriangerJust like Thancred, Athena saw a little bit of her father in Urianger, though he did intimidate her at first when she met all the Scions in the Waking Sands - purely because of how knowledgeable he was, but she soon learned that he was a kind man with a lot of intelligence. She would often spend countless hours reading in the company of Urianger, usually in a peaceful silence which they both appreciated. Athena was one of the few that Urianger let borrow his tomes, as he realised that she took very good care of his tomes - something which was taught to her religiously by her father.Urianger and Thancred would often tease Athena together, which usually resulted in her pouting but she soon learned to give as good as she gets, and the banter between all three of them would result in a lot of laughs. She often teased Urianger and Thancred were like an old married couple.Urianger was one of the first to find out that Athena carried a slither of Bahamut's aether. When he did, he promised not to tell anyone else since he could tell Athena was nervous about it, and he even offered to help her whenever she needed it if she ever wanted to learn more about the power resting within her.

Y'shtolaAthena sees Y'shtola as a mentor type figure. She highly respects the woman because of her magical knowledge and practices, and sometimes even asks Y'shtola to help her when she starts studying magic herself. As Athena's abilities grow, Y'shtola and Athena often pair up to do valuable research together, as they are considered the most powerful mages within the Scions.

G'raha TiaThey didn't have much of a relationship during their exploration of the Crystal Tower except near the end, when G'raha started to have some respect for the Warrior of Light before he sealed himself away.It was that developing respect that made G'raha summon Athena to the First during the events of Shadowbringers. As the Exarch, Athena and G'raha grew closer, however G'raha held a lot of guilt as he picked up on the changes that the light sickness were having on Athena; picking up on the way her eyes were subtlety changing, and knowing that he was putting her in danger, even if he had a plan to save her.G'raha slowly began to develop feelings for Athena, however it was entirely one sided. He had a small hunch that Emet-Selch and Athena had something going on, as he always caught the soft looks the Ascian was giving Athena when she wasn't looking. He noticed that Emet-Selch always looked at the WoL differently to how he looked to the rest of the Scions. After Shadowbringers, G'raha tried everything to help Athena deal with ther PTSD; the guilt eating away at him as he felt he was partly responsible. As Athena came to terms with her own demons, she grew closer to G'raha platonically, and even though he still held strong feelings for the Xaela, he knew deep down that she didn't feel the same. He vowed to still be there for her as a friend. He took it upon himself to look after the Warrior of Light during her recovery after the events of Endwalker.

KrileThough Athena and Krile didn't become close until Dawntrail, Athena held a lot of respect for Krile, and felt like Krile was someone she could speak to about the Echo. During their adventures in Dawntrail, Krile and Athena dabbled into Pictomancy together, and enjoyed training with one another to hone both of their magical skills, which eventually led them to become sparring partners.

'Goodbye, my almost lover.'

Athena and Haurchefant's relationship, though short, was extremely sweet and comforting.Athena had always been grateful for everything Haurchefant did for her and Alphinaud when they took refuge in Ishgard, and it became a regular thing that Athena would share hot chocolates with the knight during her stay in the cold city.Haurchefant also went out of his way to accompany Athena whenever she went out to explore, protecting her from the few Ishgardians who may have still held a negative view of Au Ra due to their similar features to dragons.Athena adored Ishgard as a city, and she often spent her free time exploring with Haurchefant, which made their friendship deepen. As the course of Heavensward went on, their feelings grew deeper, but as the Dragonsong war worsened, both of them kept their feelings to themselves to defend Ishgard together. When Haurchefant was killed during the assault on the Vault, Athena felt her heart ripped in two as she held the knight's hands in her own, his life slipping away before her. It was in this moment that Athena regretted never telling him how she felt, and the pain of losing her almost lover would stay with her forever, his parting words never leaving her mind.'A smile better suits a Hero.'

Their relationship during the events of Shadowbringers goes into detail in my fanfic Tales from the Echoes

Shadowbringers

In the simplest terms, their relationship was complicated from the get go.Their first meeting was a whirlwind of emotions as they both experienced a strange pull to one another from the depths of their souls. Following this initial feeling - Athena was determined to ignore it and carry on with her duty, whilst Emet-Selch plotted to use this to his advantage, determined to slowly manipulate the esteemed Hero of the Source astray from her path. What followed was a secretive, intimate yet confusing string of meetups.Emet-Selch found himself observing Athena whenever he could, and started appearing to her during her moments of alone time. The first few meetups were met with hostility and caution; with the Ascian playing a game of how far he could push Athena's buttons. Soon enough, Athena also learned to play the teasing game of quips, and they both found themselves enjoying the company of the other, as it slowly developed into more intimate meetups where they got to know one another behind the masks of Hero and Villain. One meeting turned into several, often under the protection of the night where no one could interrupt them, and the pull between them became stronger and stronger.Regardless of their deepening bond, Athena felt guilty that she was keeping this big secret from the Scions. She feared she would be judged for 'conspiring with the enemy'. But despite the guilt, she couldn't help this strong pull she felt towards the Ascian. He began to see her for her. Not some Hero who was always put on a pedastal, but a person like everyone else. Despite the sorrow that plagued him, Emet-Selch didn't want to believe that the Warrior of Light was the shattered remanants of his dear friend, Minerva. They were complete opposites - sun and moon, day and night, chaotic and calming - but the closer he got to Athena, the more he began to see just how alike they actually were. When the Crystal Exarch began to suspect something was going on between the two, Emet-Selch proposed a new meeting opportunity - that he would whisk her away in the night to certain places in Amaurot away from prying eyes, and return her in the morning. Secretly, Emet-Selch was hoping that bringing Athena to these places would reawaken her memories as Azem, that there would be an opportunity to pull at those memories and persuade Athena to join him.Athena collapsed after the events of the fourth Lightwarden, and Emet-Selch took this opportunity to whisk her away completely, keeping her in his phantom Amaurot for some time. This was a turning point in their relationship.Athena, as much as she hated herself for it, didn't want to leave. She was frightened at what was to come, having tried so hard to hide her pain and fear from everyone around her. The mask of the Hero was crumbling, and this was a perfect moment for Emet-Selch to manipulate her to his side. He offered her an escape to the pressures she was facing, to join his cause at his side, and forget the woes of the broken world she lived in. To recreate a world of paradise.Until he realised the depth of his feelings he held for the Warrior of Light. He had planned his manipulation to the exact detail - what he didn't plan for was falling deeply in love with the Warrior of Light.Despite the feelings that harboured between the two, they still sat on the opposite ends of the moral compass. All those intimate moments together had intertwined them to levels not even he could comprehend. Fate had come in and bound the two of them with red string that no one could break. Athena caught glimpses of a man behind the burden he carried - caring, headstrong and driven by love. Still twisted by his duty however, the love had a nasty twist of possessiveness. Emet-Selch wanted Athena at his side always, no matter the cost. Athena knew she had to continue her duty, and the fury and obsession from Emet-Selch led him to stopping the Exarch from saving Athena from the light corruption. He wanted nothing more than to be the only one that Athena wanted - that Athena relied on, even with the disappointment he felt at Athena's failure to contain the light. After everything they felt towards another - the passion, the secret confessions - this was the ultimate betrayal in Athena's eyes.No matter how much they loved one another, they were both still bound by their duties. And those duties were always meant to be against one another.Heartbroken and shattered - and left with no other choice, Athena left for the Tempest alone. Feeling broken and guilty for taking up Emet-Selch's offer to die in the depths of Amaurot, Athena confronted him. All the love they held for one another had now been twisted into anger and despair as they realised they had always been doomed from the start when fate decided to bind them together. And the knife twisted deeper when Emet-Selch saw with his very eyes the confirmation that he had been ignoring all along - that Athena held Azem's soul, and she was more like Minerva than all the previous shards he had dealings with.Knowing that his love for Minerva - and now Athena, ran so deep that it forced him on the path of defeat, Emet-Selch did one final deed to save Athena's life. He made her use up the Light that was corrupting her soul to defeat him, putting an end to their conflict - and breaking Athena's heart into a million pieces. As he faded, leaving Athena with the words to 'Remember us' - Minerva's memories were restored, and Athena finally understood just how deep their connection went. As the weight of realization hit her as Emet-Selch began to fade away, Athena broke down as he left her alone in the ruins of Amaurot.Fate bound them together, and Fate tore them apart.

Endwalker

Their relationship during the events of Endwalker will go into detail in a future fanfic

When Athena travelled back in time to discover the cause behind the Final Days, her heart was not prepared for what she was about to face. Reunited with the man who broke her heart into a million pieces - except he had no idea about their relationship.Having no choice in this unfamiliar time, Athena teamed up with Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus to discover the source of the Final Days, and learn more about Dynamis. Reluctant to trust her due to her mysterious circumstances, plus harbouring the exact same soul colour as Minerva, Emet-Selch acted cold with her, whilst Hythlodaeus treated her with warmth and friendliness.Still suffering the pain of the heartbreak, Athena's anger towards Emet-Selch began to slip through - making snide remarks and teases which entertains Hythlodaeus greatly much to Emet-Selch's irritation. However, as those teasing quips continue between the two, it sparks a famaliar heat - one which rocks Athena with painful memories, and confuses Emet-Selch. As the heat continues to rise, they both break one evening, and Emet-Selch offers a proposition of simply allowing both of them to let off steam in the form of pleasure, and nothing more. Athena, despite her mind telling her it was a bad idea, agrees. As long as they keep it just that - a casual fling just to allow them to deal with the tension building up between them. A way to dismantle it so they can both focus on their own missions in Elpis. When Athena reveals the truth about the future, and Emet-Selch hits her with his harsh words, Athena feels herself break all over again and starts to feel lost on this journey to save the future of her world.Still, the trio continue on, the teasing quips continuing between Athena and Emet-Selch, and they both unknowingly continue to spark that unbearable heat between them. The two of them found themselves drawn to one another once again on a more intimate level, despite their attempts to stop it. They begin to get closer. Emet-Selch questioning why he feels this strong pull towards her; why the threads of his soul try to intertwine with hers like they do around Minerva, but Athena remains reluctant to fully open up to him.As their journey carries on in Elpis, slowly but surely, Athena and Emet-Selch grow closer, and Athena starts to feel her buried feelings for the Ancient rise to the surface. During one evening together, Emet-Selch opens up about the way his soul is acting around her - driven to intertwine with hers, just like it does with Minerva. He explains there's only one situation where this normally occurs.Between those destined to be soulmates. And that's when the truth hits Athena hard - Emet-Selch was her soulmate, and he always had been. The revelation that she had killed her soulmate in her time pained her.But it all made sense - the magnetic pull to one another, the way she felt whole whenever they were intimate, the absolute agony of her breaking heart when she lost him on the first. He had been her other half this whole time.Whilst trying to chase down Meteion, the high tension between them finally explode, and Athena finally reveals everything to him. Their first meeting. Their meetups in the Crystarium. Their relationship. Their time in phantom Amaurot. Everything. And for a fleeting moment, Athena felt like maybe, just maybe, they had finally re-established their connection. But time was against them, and they didn't have enough of it to fully talk about it.Athena then finds herself facing Hermes and barely escaping with her memories intact - with Emet-Selch bestowing his legacy onto her one more time, and when he gives her that signature soft smile of his, Athena wanted nothing more than reach for him and save him from the oncoming disaster of the Final Days, but even she couldn't intervene with the events of the past. They wouldn't see each other again until Ultima Thule, where Athena finally gets the closure she had so long ached for, in the form of a recreated Convocation crystal belonging to Emet-Selch, who imbues it with his memories and feelings of Athena, and tells her to attune to it when she ready to do so. In a moment of weakness, she pleads for him to stay, and he just replies with a kiss that holds a promise that he'll be waiting for her when it's her time to cross into the Aetherial Sea.As he leaves, he takes with him a piece of her heart that she'll never get back.Fate bound them together, fate tore them apart but the promise to be reunited in another lifetime remains with Athena for the rest of her journey.

'I want you. I want only you. I want all of you. But I'll take whatever you're ready to give'

Endwalker

With the weight of her grief from losing Emet-Selch, as well as the trauma from the light sickness still weighing heavily on her mind, their first meeting wasn't exactly the happiest of interactions. During their first meeting in Labyrinthos, Athena barely registered what was going on around; following along in a dissociative state whilst keeping up the mask of callousness to keep everyone at a distance. During the Scions' conversation with the gleaner, Athena barely registered what was going on and kept to herself. Erenville however was quick to notice that the prestigious Warrior of Light was awfully quiet, and noticed Athena during a moment of her mask slipping. When she realized she was being watched, she quickly put that mask back on and pretended like nothing happened, but in that small moment, Erenville picked up on the fact there was a lot more going on with her, but having just met her, he didn't think it was his right to pry. They wouldn't interact again until Athena had managed to prevent the Final Days from destroying Etheirys. Having returned from Ultima Thule in critical condition, she would spend her time recovering in Old Sharlayan. It would take a few months for Athena to be able to walk again, but despite recovering physically, she felt unable to recover emotionally and mentally due to feeling trapped within the walls of where she was recovering; the constant monitoring from the Sharlayan healers drove Athena insane, until she begged when she was fit enough to be able to go outside. She was allowed to walk around outside when she was able to walk by herself, thankful for the peace and quiet away from the atmosphere of the recovery ward. Erenville soon spotted the Warrior of Light by herself in Sharlayan during his trips back and forth to Labyrinthos, and decided to start keeping her company when she was allowed outside. Their meet ups would range from a coffee in the Last Stand to Erenville taking her down Labyrinthos where Athena could indulge in a much quieter space, and she grew to appreciate their meetups as they provided a much needed distraction from the turmoil in her heart.Eventually, Athena left for her island bought for her by Tartaru, and they went some time before they reconnected again. Just before Erenville had to leave for an assignment sent to him from a place far west, he visited Athena on her island to see how she was doing. He immediately noticed how her eyes shone brighter from the healing she had been doing emotionally out here on her island. Athena, though confused to see Erenville of all people visiting her, welcomed him with the smile that she had been hiding for so long. Though struggling that day to walk up the hills of her island due to her hip injury flaring up, Erenville offered his arm to support her up the hill where he would be able to see her island for himself. He explored a little bit, praising her for her hard work on managing the island and complimenting that she was looking well before leaving for his assignment.Neither would expect that would be the beginning of their bond growing into something more.

Dawntrail

Deciding to join Wuk Lamat on her journey to become Dawnservent, Athena and Erenville slowly start to become closer as the journey goes on.It was a slow progression, spurred on by Erenville's kindness to assist the Warrior of Light whenever her injury would start to slow her down, offering his arm for her to lean one for extra support. Everyone around them began to catch on just how close the two of them were becoming, whilst Athena and Erenville remained totally oblivious.Athena noticed that she started to feel different towards Erenville, but she still guarded her heart after the turmoil with Emet-Selch, and thought nothing of it. The same was true for Erenville, but with niether knowing how the other felt, they both kept it to themselves.Once they stumbled upon Heritage Found, and Erenville learned the truth of his mother, Athena noticed that he started to become distant. As their journey continued on to face Sphene in Living Memory, Erenville was becoming increasingly distant, and Athena worried for his emotional wellbeing. During that point in their journey, Athena's injury was flaring up due getting attacked by Zoraal Ja, but refusing to burden Erenville whilst he was trying to accept the reality of his mother, Athena pushed herself.Once Erenville had accepted the truth about his mother, he noticed just how much Athena had been suffering to not burden him, but they didn't have time to talk as Athena's final confrontation with Sphene approached. Just before her soul was seperated, Erenville pleaded with her to come back to him - the full truth of his emotions fuelling those words. After the battle, Athena and Erenville found themselves tipsy from the celebrations which led to them sleeping together from the weight of unspoken feelings. The day after, they had a conversation about the future of their relationship now their feelings were laid bare. Athena knew she would never get over Emet-Selch fully, but she thought maybe she could learn to love another in the time she had left. They decided to pursue the relationship, taking it at Athena's pace whilst she was still healing from a broken heart, but maybe she could allow herself a little help to support her on her healing journey.

Pre-ARR

Long before the Seventh Umbral Calamity, Athena Kha was born a member of the Kha tribe of the Azim Steppe - child to Drago Kha and Nova Malaguld.Athena's father was highly respected in their tribe; he was an intellgient man with an insatiable thirst for adventure and knowledge, and kept up the tribe's teachings of learning non-Auri cultures with great respect. On the opposite nature, Athena's mother was very much a homebody, preferring to stay within the borders of the Steppe than travel too far for long periods of time. Regardless, it was clear that the love between Athena's parents was strong.Every time Drago returned from one of his excursions, he would recount the stories of his travels to his young daughter, filling her mind with curiosity. He was a talented scholar; well equipped with magical prowess which caught the attention of the young Xaela and led the father to teaching his daughter very basic magic in small quantities. Drago also taught Athena to speak Eorzean from his own teachings in traversing the lands. Through her mother, Athena was taught survival skills and wielding physical weapons. Even though Nova was supportive in her daughter learning magic, she also thought it would be beneficial to still learn these skills for protection. As Athena grew into her teens, she started experiencing strange visions and dreams of a time much different to her own.At 20 years old, Athena's father departed from the Steppe due to concerns of the strange phenomenon of a descending red moon that had appeared over Eorzea, something that Drago had learned about during one of his excursions. He knew he couldn't bring his daughter or wife with him this time, so he bid them farewell and promised that he would be back soon. Drago ended up being dragged into the battle of Carteaneu after he spent months researching the strange moon that was descending, promising to help the Grand Companies figure out what was going on. His effort in the battle made him a war hero of Eorzea, but he was severely injured whilst attempting to help soliders retreat. On the night of the battle, Athena experienced a vision of her father after witnessing a stranger meteor shower, abruptly ending before Drago got injured. After the vision, Athena sobbed as she felt deep down that she may have just lost her father. After the battle, Drago spent time in Gridania recovering from his injuries, and he was given the title of a war hero by the Order of the Twin Adder for his valiant efforts in helping the Alliance. Drago requested that once he was deemed well enough to leave, that he was allowed to return home to his wife and daughter. Kan-E-Senna approved this request, and even commanded the Order help transport him back safely to the Steppe so he could spend the rest of his recovery with his family. He returned, at the ultimate relief of his family knowing that he was alive, and spent the time recovering surrounded by the love of his wife and daughter.

A Realm Reborn

Five years after the Seventh Umbral Calamity, the land begins to repair itself, and so is the beginning of Athena's journey.Upon hearing about the progress of the land, Athena's father wished to journey back to Eorzea; partly to see the land's progress, and partly to research what remains of Carteneau, but the wounds from his battle five years prior prevent him from being healthy enough to do so. Not wanting her father's wish to go unfulfilled, Athena decides to travel in his stead, and hoping that she would also seek answers about her strange dreams and visions, which have now gotten more frequent. Her parents are supportive of her decision, and help prepare her for the journey ahead. Her mother equipped her with a sword to help protect herself on her journey, and her father bestowed upon her his very first grimoire; a relic filled with innate knowledge and information on the use of magic, hoping that one day, Athena could train herself into a powerful mage.Athena left the Steppe to board a boat in Kugane that would lead her to Eorzea, and there she would take on a new name to signify a new part in her story, a story that would become her own. She was now known as Athena Moonflow.Arriving in Ul'dah by chocobo carriage, Athena established herself quickly as a keen adventurer. She registered with the Gladiator's guild to hone her skills with the sword her mother gave her, but she hoped that she could train in magic one day. Through her good deeds and the show of her Echo, she was noticed by Thancred, who befriended her and eventually led her to the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. It was here that she met Minfilia, another blessed with the powers of the Echo, and they became quite close through their shared powers.Athena's name quickly became known throughout her Eorzea; her slaying of Primals without fear of tempering soon granted her the title the Warrior of Light - something which caught the eye of a different enemy, the Ascians.Thancred's possession by the Ascian Lahabrea upset Athena greatly, having grown quite close to the man throughout their current travels. Resolved to save him, Athena's quest led her to the discovery of the Ultima Weapon and her confrontation with Gaius van Baelsar. Athena would emerge victorious, and bring forth the Eight Astral Era, with her title being known far wider than she ever imagined.

Post-ARR and the Coils of Bahamut

With the threat of the Ascians subdued for now, but the lingering threat of the Primals still ongoing, Athena takes the chance to pursue training in the Arcanist's guild, thinking the knowledge of Summoners' past may aid her in defeating future Primal threats. She trains vigorously in the Arcanist's guild for some time. It is here that she creates her Carbuncle familiar, who she calls Argo. Treating him more than just an aetheric weapon to use at her command, Argo starts behaving more like a beloved pet towards Athena, and their bond begins to deepen.During her studies to become a Summoner, Athena ends up at the Carteanau Flats to study the effects of the Dreadwyrm's aether that is lingering. It is here that she experiences a strange sensation of Bahamut's aether merging with her own, triggering her Echo to show her the truth about Bahamut's past - the battle with the Allagans, the resummoning of his image into the elder primal, his entrapment in Dalamud. Stunned by what she just witnessed, Athena accepts Alisaie's offer to investigate the coils further, spurred on by Bahamut's aether guiding her. Alisaie and Athena learn the truth together, and put a stop to the recreation of the elder primal and lay Louisoix, as well as the other Meracydians, to rest. Noticing Athena's deed, the remanents of Bahamut's aether choose to stay within the Warrior of Light - something Athena is cautious about, and decides to keep a secret from the rest of the Scions. When Athena meets Midgardsormr, he instantly recognised the power of one his children laying dormant within Athena. Intrigued as to why Bahamut would choose to merge with a mere mortal, one who was also blessed with Hydaelyn's protection, he decided to test Athena's strength to see if she was truly worthy to be the Warrior of Light, and sealed away her Blessing. Curiosity getting the better of him however, he creates a smaller form to accompany her, and tells her that he was awakened by the roar of one of his other children, Nidhogg and explains the current state of the war between man and dragons. Midgardsormr and Athena begin to bond, and it's through that bond and learning about the current political state of Ishgard that would lead Athena into the next chapter of her adventure. After being framed for the murder of the Sultana, Athena flees to Coerthas with Alphinaud, Tartaru and Midgardsormr, where the next chapter of her journey awaits her.

Heavensward

Surviving the onslaught of the bloody banquet, Athena fled to Ishgard with Alphinaud and Tartaru, and found sanctuary under the protection of House Fortemps. Athena's time in Ishgard at the beginning was tumultuous; her appearance giving rise to discomfort from citizens due to their dislike of Au Ra, but Haurchefant saw that she was well protected. Despite the protection she was given, Athena kept her powers associated with Bahamut's aether a secret, especially when she came into contact with Estinien Wyrmblood. As she learns more about the Dragonsong War, the more she is weary of her own potential with the Dreadwyrm.During her time in Ishgard, she grows close to Haurchefant, but they both keep their feelings to themselves as they help out with Ishgard's struggles with the dragons. In between tasks, the two could be seen walking around the city and sharing hot chocolates.Together with Alphinaud, Estinien and Ysayle, Athena travelled to meet Hraesvelgr in an attempt to make peace between wyrm and man. The mighty wyrm immediately recognised Bahamut's aether laying dormant within the Warrior of Light, but it isn't enough to persuade Hraesvelgr to stop his brood-brother Nidhogg. Having no choice, the group move to stop Nidhogg at his lair. Upon sensing his other sibling laying dormant within Athena, Nidhogg's fury intensifies, and Athena fights for her life against his fury.Travelling back to Ishgard, Athena confronts Thordan in the Vault, and during the assault, Haurcefant dies protecting the Warrior of Light. Athena is absolutely heartbroken at losing the Knight she was developing feelings for, but Haurchefant pushes her resolve forward. She goes to Azys Lla to confront Thordan and the Heaven's Ward. Here, she meets Tiamat, who feels conflicted at sensing her mate's aether within Athena, but knowing that Bahamut would have chosen Athena for a good reason, Taimat has faith in the Warrior of Light. With her blessing restored by Midgardsormer, Athena takes down Thordan. Some time after her confrontation with Thordan, Athena attends the peace treaty with the dragons and Ishgard, only to discover that Estinien has been possessed by Nidhogg. Determined to save him, Athena meets with Hraesvelgr one more time to convince him to stop his brood-brother. After besting him in his trial, Hraesvelgr joins the Warrior of Light in stopping Nidhogg's rampage, and saving Estinien from his clutches. It was watching Estinien that increased the fear of the potential that Bahamut could take over herself one day, so Athena vowed to never be tempted by the power Bahamut offered her.Athena finally saw peace restored once more between man and dragon, and she was proclaimed a Hero amongst Ishgard and dragonkind alike.

Stormblood

Summoned to the Far East, Athena along with the other Scions head to aid the Ala Mhigan resistance. Still traumatised by Papalymo's sacrifice against the summoned Shinryu, Athena pushed on regardless. Upon reaching Rhalgr's Reach to aid the Resistance, Athena is injured in the ambush led by Zenos yae Galvus. It was during this point that Athena felt the first temptation to use Bahamut's power; to aid her in defeating the Garlean prince, but still fearing after seeing what happened to Estinien, Athena rejected the temptation to give in.After her recovery, the Scions agree to to try and divide the Garlean forces by heading to Doma to spark a resistance there. There, the Scions meet with Yugiri, who is there under Hien's wishes. When Athena is defeated again in an attempt to assassinate Zenos, the pull towards Bahamut's power strengthens. Zenos is able to detect that there is an immense power hiding within the Warrior of Light, but disappointed by her rejection of said power, he leaves her with a promise that one day, they will have a battle of unbridled power. The Scions moved to the Azim Steppe to seek out Hien, and for Athena, it's a return to her birthplace. She is reunited with childhood friend Cirina, who recognised Athena from her signature sapphire blue hair - a familiar trait amongst Athena's maternal lineage. Whilst discussing with the Mol tribe about Hien, Athena and Cirina reconnect and catch up with what's been happening on the Steppe whilst Athena has been on her adventures. Athena asks about her parents, and finds out they are currently travelling away from the Steppe. Disheartened, but also knowing how much her father thrived on travelling, Athena hoped that she'll see them again soon.Athena's feeling towards Hien's plans to win the Nadaam were actually a little bit complicated. Whilst she understood the potential the Steppe tribes could offer to help the liberation, she felt uneasy at her people's traditions being exploited to win favour. Whilst Hien and the rest of the Scions seek the blessing of the Mol elder to participate, Athena - who automatically had rights to the Nadaam - instead travelled around the Steppe with Cirina to speak with the tribes themselves. Once the blessing had been granted to Hien and the Scions to compete for the Mol, Athena declared that her participation would be for the Khas and Malagulds - the tribes of her parents. After successfully winning the Nadaam herself, and now crowned Khagan of the Steppe, Athena rallied more support from the tribes as a native winner. With the strength of her birthplace behind her, Athena and the Scions invade Doma Castle and reclaim Doma's freedom, recrowning Hien as king and turning their efforts towards Ala Mhigo's liberation. The Warrior of Light pushes on, and finally confronts Zenos a third time who has fused with the primal, Shinryu. During the battle, some of Bahamut's power overtakes her and leads her to victory against the crown prince, but still highly relunctant to acknowledge the power despite Bahamut's temptation to accept it, Athena pushed it back once more. After liberating Ala Mhigo and Doma, Athena investigated the rumours of Black Rose, but those were soon thwarted when her dear Scion companions started collapsing one by one, and she started getting mysterious calls from an unknown voice. As her friends were taken away from her one by one, Athena grew distressed due to being unable to stop it.After reaching a stalemate with the Garlean Empire after the Alliance meeting, Athena turned her attention to the voice trying to summon her, and headed for the Crystal Tower.

Shadowbringers

After investigating the Crystal Tower to search for the origins of the strange voice, Athena soon found herself traversing between worlds, and found herself on the First.Suffering with the plight from the Lightwardens, the Crystal Exarch pleads with the Warrior of Light to help them save the First, and Athena agreed. Reunited with her friends, Athena travelled the First to slay the Lightwardens; absorbing the Light within herself to prevent anyone else becoming the next Lightwarden, praying that her Blessing of Light continues to protect her own being from potential corruption.Their plans take an interesting twist when the Ascian, Emet-Selch, introduced himself and offered a proposition of co-operation. Ever since that introduction, Athena felt a strange, magnetic pull towards the Ascian that she couldn't explain. Determined to not let this strange feeling distract her, Athena pushed it back as best as she could, but it didn't help when Emet-Selch started showing up to her alone during her downtime.Regardless, Athena pushed on to rid the First of the Lightwardens, whilst subconsciously drifting closer to her enemy. Their meetings became more regular, and Athena slowly found herself tolerating the company of the Ascian more as the time went on. As she absorbed more of the Light, subtle changes began to appear on Athena's body - her deep sapphire eyes began to lighten, her aether became more corrupted, and in the eyes of Emet-Selch, her familiar soul colour began to become muted.Athena hid her fears, determined to press on and hide just how much the Light was affecting her. Shortly after returning from Maliak's Well, Athena collapsed on her way to her chambers, and was found by none other than Emet-Selch. Seeking an opportunity, the Ascian took Athena's unconscious body to his recreation of Amaurot. She would spend a few weeks here with the Ascian, and this pivotal moment would deepen their bond to lengths neither of them anticipated. During her time in his captivity, Athena spent her time exploring the place he brought her to, driven by the strong feeling in her soul that this place was very familiar. One particular shade amongst the populace would approach her and begin many conversations when she was walking through; spurred by the familiar colour of her soul. He introduced himself as Hythlodaeus, and Athena spent many of her walks through the phantom city in his company. As Athena spent more time with Emet-Selch in this strange city, Athena started to feel like she never wanted to leave, but she knew her duty would call her back eventually. During their time together, both of them realised they had fallen in love with one another, which pained Athena even more about leaving and continuing her duty, knowing that it would force them against one another once more.Eventually, Athena returned to continue the hunt for the last Lightwarden, which took her back to Eulmore to confront Vauthry. Before her climb up Mt.Gulg, Emet-Selch confronted her and offered a chance to join him - driven by the love he felt for her, but twisted by his drive to complete his duty. Athena offered him a chance to speak after she had slain the final Lightwarden, thinking that perhaps she could change his mind. Two souls linked by love, desperate to make ends meet, but twisted by fate. After the defeat of Vauthry, Athena's soul began to shatter; the light threatening to overtake her and transform her into the next Lightwarden, and betrayed by the very man she had given her heart to when he shot the Exarch down from helping her. Emet-Selch, disappointed by Athena's failure to contain the light, offered her respite in the place where their souls connected - in the depths of the Tempest, where she could complete the transformation away from the people she loved.Ryne attempted to reverse the effects as Athena collapsed into darkness.Athena was heartbroken when she awoke. Her body had changed even more from the effects of the Light overtaking her, despite Ryne's best attempts to reverse the effects. Her right eye remained lighter shade of blue, dots of white freckles littered her body, and her scales had grown to adorn more of her body. Feeling defeated and horrified by herself, Athena thought on Emet-Selch's offer, and made for the Tempest alone. The phantom Amaurot that she come to love no longer offered her comfort, instead the Warrior of Light was filled with despair from her upcoming transformation and her broken heart. Athena and Emet-Selch confront each other one final time before the Scions catch up; one final attempt to salvage their love from the destructuin of their duties, but as they were meant to be all along, they don their roles as Hero and Villain once again. Athena's journey through the recreation of the Final Days brought unimaginable turmoil within her soul. With the fusion of Ardbert bringing her the strength she needs, Athena defeated Emet-Selch. In the fleeting moment of his form dissolving for the Aetherial Sea, the weight of her actions finally bears down on Athena as she realizes just how much she has fallen in love with Emet-Selch. As he leaves, he bids Athena to remember him and his people, and those words spark the restoration of Azem's memories. Athena breaks down as she witnesses the only person who could help her understand completely fade away in her arms.As everyone celebrates the Ascian's defeat that night, Athena withdraws to her room where she grieves for the love she killed with her own hands.

Patch 5.3 and beyond

Consumed by the grief of losing the only person who could help her understand Azem's memories, Athena begins to question her identity. Was she Athena or Minerva? Was she the Warrior of Light or Azem? All of these questions weighed heavy on her mind. Athena also began to notice that she was losing her vision in her right eye - the very same one that remained permanently lighter than her left eye. Frightened, and feeling very trapped, Athena pushed herself to work on a solution to bring her friends back to the Source. Between her trips as a messenger to Tartaru, Athena's despair and inner darkness started to physically manifest into the being known as Esteem as a by-product of Athena's reluctance to show her weaknesses.Athena's journey would bring her in conflict with Elidibus. When Athena was searching for answers about the last of the Unsundered, she learns more about the Final Days that was brought upon the Star. When she follows Elidibus in Amaurot, he pushes her will to the test by making her fight against everyone she has come to known and love. This very test breaks Athena bit by bit. At the end of these tests, Athena witnesses her unsundered self's final moments before the Sundering. She watched as Minerva tried to carry on, bruised and bloody - even as her soul started to shatter and she resorted to crawling, Athena witnessed it all and experienced all the feelings that Minerva did in her final moments. After the vision, Athena breaks down at learning that Minerva died alone thinking everyone, including Emet-Selch, hated her.Determined to put a stop to Elidibus despite her grief, Athena receives Azem's Convocation crystal from Hythlodaeus - a final parting gift that Emet-Selch made for his dear friend. With the power of Azem in her hands, Athena defeats Elidibus despite her heartbreak, and finally gets her friends home safely to the Source.Despite the joyous reunion, Athena struggled to cope with her trauma of everything she had discovered on the First. Feeling trapped, and unable to express her feelings, Athena defected from the Scions in the middle of the night, and with only a note left behind.Athena travelled by herself for some time, trying to come to terms with everything she had learned, and dealing with the physical manifestation of her inner darkness. She visited places that she deemed her failures - Haurcefant's grave, Tiamat trapped in Azys Lla where they would speak about their own grief, the remains of the Waking Sands. Athena visited it all whilst battling with Esteem.Athena would catch word of the Scions finding a cure for tempering, and finally decided to return once the Scions attempted to test out their cure on the Kobold leader. Her reappearance was met with a lot of tears and relief, even if Athena was still struggling to come to terms with her own inner turmoil.Their journey would eventually come into contact with Fandaniel and the Lunar Primals. She enthiuastically joined Estinien to free Tiamat to stop Lunar Bahamut, and carried on to defeat the rest of the Lunar Primals. It is here that Athena realized that she is the only one who can put a stop to Fandaniel's plans to bring about the Final Days to the Source. She knew she had to do it, one last time, even if the price for salvation was her own life.If she didn't save the world, then who would?Burying down her own feelings and turmoil, Athena prepared to journey to Old Sharlayan - and to put an end to the threat of the Final Days.

Endwalker

With the threat of Fandaniel to bring about the same Calamity that caused the Sundering of the Star, Athena and the Scions journey to Old Sharlayan. Despite Athena still struggling with a lot of her own inner turmoil, she dons a mask of callousness to keep her loved ones at a distance, knowing that she will most likely not survive by the end of their journey. To help her on her journey, she is gifted a beautiful flower from Hydaelyn herself, and she tells Athena this will be the key to finding the answer she seeks. With this flower, Athena starts to notice how it changes different colours depending on her emotions.Athena works tirelessly with the Scions to find any information they can, their journey taking them across parts of Thavnair and Old Sharlayan, and eventually to the frozen wastes of Garlemald. When Athena heads for the Moon, she goes with the heavy feeling that she will not be coming back. Her reunion with Hythlodaeus is bittersweet after he saves hers from the distressed souls that were sacrificed to summon Zodiark. She recounts him with the tales of her time together with his shade recreated by Emet-Selch. After finding some heart-warming amusement to Emet-Selch's ache for sentimentality, Hythlodaeus offers Athena his aid to help her stop Fandaniel and Zenos.Athena would find herself manipulated in ending the existence of Zodiark, and in turn, accelerating the Final Days to the Source.

Distraught by what she had done, Athena almost breaks down after hearing the plan laid out by Hydaelyn by the Loporrits. Finally shattering her mask of callousness, Athena finally seeks comfort from her friends and admits her struggles. Reassuring her that everything that led to Zodiark's demise was not her fault, Athena's finds a slither of her resolve to keep pushing forward. Her research into her flower from Hydaelyn and "Dynamis" would lead her to the Crystal Tower to speak with Elidibus. With his help, Athena is thrust far into the past, where she would meet with two souls that she would never expect to see again. Her time with Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus in Elpis is a complicated whirlwind of emotions. She disguises herself as Azem's familiar, and joins the two men on their mission to find Hermes. At first, Athena struggles to believe the man known as Hermes is the crazed Fandaniel of her time. She empathizes with Hermes a lot, especially on the topic of grief. Through her interactions with Hermes and Meteion, Athena learns more about Dynamis and the familiar flower known as the "Elpis" flower. In the midst of her own mission, the tension between her and Emet-Selch simmers, but despite this, the magnetic draw to one another reignites.Athena eventually meets Venat - the woman who would become the Heart of Hydaelyn. After learning what she knew about Hydaelyn, Athena is hesitant about becoming closer to Venat, but upon sensing her protection magick on Athena, Venat summarizes that Athena has travelled from the future. After this revelation, Athena bears the truth of her arrival to her companions. With increasing tension still festering between herself and Emet-Selch, Athena pushes on until they hear the report from Meteion. Discovering that Hermes' question had a fatal flaw, the group find themselves confronting Hermes in Ktisis Hyperboreia. Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus prevent Athena from losing her memories, as they are the key to saving her world, and Emet-Selch bestows his legacy onto her once more. With her memories intact, Venat sends her back to her time to stop the Final Days.Athena's confrontation with Hydaelyn is a bittersweet mixture of emotions. Finally having a moment to speak her mind, Athena lets everything out - her questioning of her sense of self, whether she had been tempered all along, Venat's decision to sunder the world. Everything. She bared it all.As Hydaelyn dissapates and leaves the fate of the world on Athena's shoulders once more, She comforts Athena with the knowledge that she always had her will untouched by tempering. She urges Athena to use the power of Azem should she ever find herself lost without her friends. With Her Answer finally spoken, Athena makes for the edge of the universe.Athena almost falters when she's left alone in Ultima Thule; her friends sacrificing themselves to build her path. Esteem appears and bids Athena remember who she really is - to find her sense of self and her OWN will. As she found herself facing Meteion, she prays into Azem's crystal with all her might and summons the two souls hers yearned for. With the help of Hades and Hythlodaeus, they dismantled Meteion's despair with a beautiful bloom of Elpis flowers, showing that even in the deepest pits of despair - Hope will always find a way to bloom. Before Athena continued on to confront the Endsinger, she speaks with Hades and Hythlodaeus one more time to finally get the closure both she - and deep down, Minerva - needed. In a private moment, she reconciles everything with Hades, and pleads with him to stay. Knowing that he cannot due to his deep love for the world that no longer was, Hades recreates his Convocation crystal and imbues it with all the feelings he ever held for both Athena as she was, and Athena as she is now. He tells her to attune to it when she's ready to hear all of his thoughts and feelings, promises her that he'll be waiting to guide her when it's her time to cross over to the Aetherial Sea.Once Athena defeated Endsinger with the help of Zenos, they both have that battle that Zenos vowed they would have. After finally accepting who she was, Athena accepts the slither of power that she had been hiding from all along - Bahamut's power. Her clash with Zenos is spectacular - unbridled power shaking the very plane they stood upon. That's when Athena realized that this was a fight to the death. Zenos shatters her hip during their battle, but she doesn't yield.Broken, bloody and both of them on the verge of death - Zenos thanks Athena for the best battle he ever had. The Warrior of Light lay beside the Crown Prince as the last of his life left his body. Bleeding and suffering with severe aether depletion, Athena remarks to herself that she may be reuniting with Hades sooner than she thought, and just as she's about to embrace death, her body is swept away to the Ragnarock.Upon reappearing on the ship, Athena's heart stops beating.Through the combined efforts of the Scions, Athena is brought back from the brink of death. Reunited with her loved ones, Athena returns to Old Sharlayan safely. Unfortunately, the battle with Zenos proves too much for her aether depleted body to handle, and she slips into a coma. When Athena eventually awakes, she spends the rest of her recovery in Old Sharlayan. Despite recovering physically, she feels stifled in her emotional recovery. Tartaru surprises Athena with her own island as a means to escape to be alone with her thoughts and process her feelings. Athena accepts, and spends many moons on her island finding herself and coming to terms with everything she's learned on her adventure. It's a raw, bittersweet recovery, but by the end of it, Athena feels much stronger to carry on the legacy bestowed upon her by the man who would forever remain her soulmate, until the day she can be reunited with him.

Dawntrail

After many moons of recovery, Athena accepts the invitation from Erenville's old friend Wuk Lamat, to help her in the competition for the throne, and heads west to Tural. Her journey allows her to experience a myriad of cultures different to her own - something that her father would be proud of her for, considering her tribe's values. Athena takes a bit of a backseat during her time in Tural, which she quite enjoys, and it allows her to become closer with Erenville - who makes sure he is always close by to lend Athena support when her hip injury flares up.As their journey continues, Athena and Erenville's bond deepens. It's a slow development that takes them both by surprise, but hesitant to admit anything to the other, they both keep their feelings to themselves. Athena is also still hesitant to let anyone in due to the heartbreak she endured losing Emet-Selch. She keeps his Convocation crystal close during her journey, and Erenville even offers to turn it into a charm or necklace to keep it more secure, but unable to bear anyone else handling it, Athena politely declines.Erenville and Athena become much closer in Shaaloani, with Erenville happy to show Athena his hometown. But soon, the pace picks up when the group discover Heritage Found.Athena's feelings on Alexandria's culture are complicated. Whilst she follows her tribe's teaching of respecting every culture, the casual 'throwaway' attitude towards the use of souls leaves a bitter taste in her mouth, especially with all she's learned about souls from Emet-Selch. She decides to push her feelings aside for now, and help Erenville with his search for his mother.During the raid on Heritage Found by Zoraal Ja, Athena is attacked by him; causing her hip injury to cripple her once again. She barely manages to push herself to help the citizens of Solution Nine, but her resolve and fear for Erenville's safety forces her to keep going. When she is reunited with Erenville, she embraces him without a second thought about who is around, worried sick that he got caught in the attack on the city. Athena's fight with Zoraal Ja is difficult with her injury, and afterwards she finally collapses from the pain. Athena is carried back to Tuliyollal to recover before the group depart to face Sphene.During their journey into Living Memory, Athena notices how distant Erenville is becoming to everyone around him. With her hip injury still aching with pain, she pushes her to not burden Erenville whilst he comes to terms with the truth surrounding his mother. Traversing Living Memory is painful for Athena, but she pushes on regardless.Only when Erenville accepts the reality of his mother does he realize just how much pain Athena was actually in, but time is short as they come up to the final terminal for Athena to face Sphene. Just as her soul is about to be transported, Erenville grabs her arm and tells her that she has to come back to him, no matter what. Her body then goes limp before she can respond with her own feelings.Sphene is defeated, Athena and Wuk Lamat return to their bodies, and Erenville carries Athena back to Tuliyollal.During the celebrations of Wuk Lamat and Koana's crowning of Dawnservants, Erenville and Athena get tipsy and finally let all those unsaid feelings out. They end up sleeping together, and the next morning have a conversation about the feelings they have for one another. Athena admits her hesitation, and is still not ready to share the story of Emet-Selch with Erenville, but the ex-gleaner reassures her that he will wait as long as needs until she is comfortable. They decide to take the relationship slowly, and together navigate a new kind of relationship that sets Athena's heart on the path of healing.

'You made me tough, you made me numb
You are the maker of what I've become
And now I am strong, where I was weak, and I am unafraid of being me
So, say hello to the monster that you made'

Many millennia ago, the unsundered soul of the Warrior of Light belonged to a powerful mage known as Minerva, who would succeed Venat and hold the Seat of Azem.Minerva's origins are unknown to her. When she was barely five summers old, she was taken to Amaurot after an accident left her the only survivor from a clan of people that worked as Druids in the far north. She was found by an Amurotine couple, who took her into their care. Minerva barely remembers anything before being adopted - her earliest memories being when she was brought to Amaurot and meeting a young Hades and Hythlodaeus the very same night. Growing up, Minerva had always felt like an outcast. As a child, she was the embodiment of chaos - causing mischief and trouble whenever she could. Minerva knew always had unique features. Pearlescent white scales, a tail and horns. She didn't know why, but it often lead to her questioning her origins as her parents didn't have any of the same features. As fate would have it, she would never have the chance to speak with them and hear the true story of her adoption, as they chose to return to the Star when she had barely turned twelve summers old. The loss of her adoptive parents added to the buried trauma of losing her birth parents. She was left in the care of Hades and Hythlodaeus' families, and would inherit an apartment from her adoptive parents when she came of age.The trio were inseparable. Developing a severe fear of abandonment, Minerva clung onto both of them and refused to bond with anyone else. This often led to fights as a child, which followed her into adulthood and also led to an unhealthy attachment to Hades and Hythlodaeus. Whilst they didn't mind one bit, they knew it would be hard for Minerva to adapt once both of them took on new roles in their society - Hythlodaeus as Chief of the Bureau of the Architect and Hades holding the Seat of Emet-Selch within the Convocation of Fourteen.Regardless, they still made time for Minerva whenever they could, and the trio would enjoy each other's company when time allowed them. When her friends were very busy, Minerva would find herself drifting to Elpis to find some peace within her mind. To Minerva, it was better than the alternative - finding temporary relief through one night stands, which she often gave into when her mental health dipped too far.It was her time in Elpis that first introduced her to Venat, and through Hades, Azem learned to let Venat in as a friend. Through Venat's work as the previous Azem, she would share stories of her travels with her soon to be successor. It was through these stories that Minerva learned about different civilisations across the Star, and began to wonder if there others who looked like her out there in the world. Listening intently to Venat, Minerva slightly envied just how free Venat's role sounded, and hoped one day she could feel as free as Venat did.Seeing the potential within Minerva, Venat stepped down from her role and elected Minerva to take on the Seat of Azem. Minerva spent many moons training with Venat, besting her with her exceptionally powerful magic that was on par with Hades. Through vigorous training, Minerva joined Hades in the Convocation of Fourteen holding the Seat of Azem.Minerva thrived within her role. Travelling across the Star and getting to know the people within it helped her with accepting herself. Her headstrong and stubborn nature causing as much mischief and chaos as before - despite Hades' protests for her to stop and think before she took on the problem. Despite Minerva thoroughly enjoying her role, there was still tension between herself and other Convocation members; constant arguments and increasing tension which often caused Minerva to feel isolated as the tension bled into her friendship with Hades.Hades and Minerva's friendship grew more strained as the the unknown calamity known as the Final Days grew closer. Minerva desperately tried to cling onto any remnants of their friendship, but the pressure of both of their roles strained their friendship further - especially for Hades, who was trying to keep the relations between his dear friend and the rest of the Convocation in one piece. Minerva felt like she was slowly losing one of her best friends, and to add even further complication, Minerva was certain her feelings for both Hades and Hythlodaeus were growing into something more. She didn't know how to handle it, not with the constant arguments with Hades over the summoning of Zodiark - something Minerva refused to be a part of.Feeling isolated and alone, Minerva sought comfort with Hythlodaeus one night, which led into a night of passion. It was in that moment, where Minerva finally felt safe enough to do so, that she confessed her feelings to Hythlodaeus about both him and Hades, but feeling afraid about what to do. Hythlodaeus confessed the same, but with the Final Days approaching, they both felt it would be best to speak to Hades once they figured out what to do.That talk would never come.As Minerva continued to delay the Convocation summoning Zodiark, the other members forced a vote to outcast Minerva from her Seat - with only Hades and Themis opposing the vote. Lahabrea forced the final word, stating that she would doom them all if she delayed the only salvation of the Star, and thinking it would be kinder on her, Hades volunteered to deliver the news.Minerva had never felt such a feeling rip her apart as Hades' betrayal. Angry, heartbroken and on the verge of lashing out - Minerva ran and left Amaurot behind.Minerva spent the lead up to the Final Days helping as many people as she could, shepherding them away from places that were already affected, but soon enough, she would realize with a broken heart that all her efforts would be in vain. When the Final Days arrived, Minerva found herself back at Amaurot in one last, desperate attempt to rescue Hades and Hythlodaeus. Minerva would find herself too late, as Hades delivered the news that Hythlodaeus had already sacrificed himself for the summoning of Zodiark. The news would trigger a grief induced rage; magic becoming unbridled as Minerva finally lashed out at Hades. They would fight one another, grief clashing upon grief amongst two powerful transformations. For the first time since they had been friends, Minerva would finally win a battle against Hades, but the victory was far from sweet.Minerva withdraws into a catatonic state after the battle, the very same state she withdrew to when her parents returned to the Star. Fearing her safety, and desperate to keep her at his side, Hades clung onto her and refused to let her out of his sight. Even as he continued his work to induce His will to bring back the breathen sacrificed to summon their god.It would only be a short time after when Venat approaches Minerva to join her in stopping Zodiark with the summoning of Hydaelyn. It's this threat of more, needless sacrifices that tears Minerva out of her catatonic state, and she condemns both the Convocation and Venat for condemning all the innocent souls she met on her travels to be needlessly sacrificed. With those words, Minerva turns her back on everything she once knew.Minerva turned her back on Hades, despite his desperate pleas for her to stay - for her to stay with him, but she ignored him over the sound of her heart breaking all over again. She turned her back on her home, her mentor, her role - and declared she would continue to fight this fate, even if it spanned a thousand lifetimes. She would continue to fight fate without the need to sacrifice anymore innocent souls. With Venat's plan was about to come into action, Hades desperately tried to reach for Minerva as he escaped the Sundering. Instead, he was forced to watch Minerva walk away as the Sundering happened - watching as she fell and began to crawl to continue her battle.Bloodied, scarred and broken, Minerva carried on until her soul was shattered into thirteen reflections, and Hades would carry the heavy burden of feelings left unsaid.

On the outside, Azem presents herself as a chaotic, fiery, energetic woman who's not afraid to show off her flirty side. Deep down, she hides a lot of insecurities and emotionally vulnerability which she masks on a daily basis. She's incredibly stubborn, which often leads her to argue with others. She has a bit of a temper, and refuses to back down when she believes she's in the right. She's also full of mischief, and loves the chaos that can erupt around her. Despite her short temper, she's extremely passionate about what she believes in.Her masking of her emotional vulnerability means she often lashes out whenever she feels herself slipping with her walls. It's an automatic defense mechanism, the downside is that this causes strains in her relationships, and she often struggles to make friends because of it. This can often lead her to feeling extreme loneliness, which will cause her to find a temporary relief through one night stands. On a more intimate level, when she feels safe enough to let anyone in, she has a loving soft side that not many people get to witness.

Hobbies

Minerva uses creativity as a main love language. As such, Minerva is often making or acquiring trinkets on her travels as Azem. She uses the knowledge of other cultures to make charms, trinkets and little accessories for both herself and her two best friends. Some charms she will infuse with her aether to add intention them.Minerva also loves to create foods from recipes she learned from accoss the Star, baking especially. She has often cooked a myriad of dishes when she has returned home from her travels.Despite what other people think, Minerva is a huge bookworm, and enjoys reading in peace alongside Hades. She is constantly stealing his tomes whenever she gets a chance. Minerva also knows how to the play the violin, though she often prefers just to sit and listen to Hades play the piano. There are times where she plays her violin with Hades, and sometimes Hythlodaeus joins them on the harp.

Similar to Hades, Minerva grew up to be a magical prodigy. Her ability to manipulate and control aether standing almost on par with her dear friend, marking both of them as incredibly powerful sorcerors - something Hythlodaeus complimented about religiously when talking about both of his dear friends. Minerva's favoured weapon for her magic is a cane.Due to Minerva's birth origins, her ability to manipulate aether extends to the natural world, and Minerva has an innate ability to commune with natural energies and spirits during her travels. This means that she can use the nature around her in battle, uprooting trees to trap her foes and uplift the very earth itself. Despite the fear that many people have about Minerva's powers, she is in control of her magic at all times - though it can react to extreme states of emotion. The closest class I can describe Minerva's abilities is that of a Druid. It's through this ability that Minerva was able to help with the creation of concepts, even if they appeared as weird and wonderful as her chaotic personality. Problem was, Minerva had a tendacy to create concepts on a whim, often forgetting the rules regarding concepts and submitting them to the bureau. It was through this fault that Proto-Carbuncle was created; fuelled by her desire to have a companion in a beast like form to help with her loneliness. Unfortunately, the beast came out extremely unstable, and had to be locked away to Pandaemonium at the orders of Lahabrea.Saddened, but determined to have a companion, Minerva would carry on with her studies in secret to create travelling companions, and decided to create two familiars instead who would join her on her excursions.

OrionBasing him around her failed Proto Carbuncle concept, Minerva tweaked the design until she came out with a smaller, fluffier version of what she had originally created. Shimmering like the light of the moon, this small little creatue was given the name Orion by Minerva herself. One would often see this small, little creature at Minerva's side whenever she was travelling, accompanying her on whatever mischief she decided to create.Orion would also often be used as a messenger for Minerva; his small size perfect for such a job. Orion's appearance often signalled to Hades and Hythlodaeus the return of their dear friend from her current travels was soon to be upon them, as if Orion was acting as her guide to lead her home.It was in Orion's image that the future of Etheirys would continue the use of Carbuncles for those training to be Summoners.During the Final Days, Orion escaped alongside Astro, and he reappears to Athena during the events of Shadowbringers. During her Final Walk in Ultima Thule, Orion appears to help guide her, just as he did to Minerva long, long ago.

AstroBased around the winged horse concepts she watched in Elpis, Minerva knew she needed a more efficient way to travel around, thus bringing life to her 2nd familiar who would act as her noble steed.Astro would become her personal mount, summoned when she needed his help to traverse around every corner of Etheirys. When she was upon his back, Minerva felt free - unstoppable, like nothing could bring her down. She felt the most at peace upon Astro's back, unbound by the shackles of expectation from the Convocation. Astro would never fail to answer her call whenever she needed him. His appearance was based around the stars, built upon Minerva's wishes to one day expand her travels further to the universe itself. Astro took on the form of a black stallion, with wings looking like they were made of stardust itself.Minerva would often tease Hades into racing her amongst the clouds upon his own mount Grani, much to his reluctance - even though those races were often more like Hades trying to stop his friend from doing something stupid. Whatever the reason, his own mount could never keep up with the speed of Astro; his speed comparable to that of shooting stars.Astro escaped to the stars with Orion during the Final Days upon Minerva's command. Astro would then reappear to help guide Athena with Orion across Ultima Thule, both familiars drawn to the soul their creator once had, and determined to answer the call no matter what form their master's soul took. Many years into the future, there's some rumours that astrologians have seen the image of a celestial winged horse amongst the path of shooting stars, like the apparition is answering a call only it can hear.

'And all of that hurt, and all of those words that we said
You'd think we poisoned the ground on which we tread
But the lining is silver.'

Hades/Emet-Selch
Bonded since childhood, Hades is one of Minerva's most trusted friends alongside Hythlodaeus. The first time Hades caught of a glimpse of their souls wanting to intertwine was the night Minerva was brought to Amaurot to be adopted, but being too young to understand what it really meant, Hades tried to ignore it. As he grew older, Hades learned that souls that ache to intertwine naturally are a sign of souls destined to be soulmates. Fearing that telling Minerva this would ruin their friendship, Hades chose to keep it to himself. Hades became extremely protective over Minerva after her parents returned to the Star, and that protectiveness would continue on into adulthood. The trust between them ran deeply, which helped create moments of sincere intimacy between the two - something they were comfortable with, even if they couldn't explain it to others.
Despite Hades being protective, he often struggled to vocalise his concern with words. This meant it often displayed as 'tough love', which in some cases, could cause Minerva to bite back. They were both very similar in terms of being unable to voice their feelings, and that's where Hythlodaeus would act as a mediator. In most cases however, an argument and a friendly spar with magic often resolved a lot of tension - a cathartic realease that Hades would deliver with utmost care.Their friendship would go through some strain when Minerva joined the Convocation as Azem. Hades was often a mediator to prevent Minerva fighting with the other Convocation members. However, despite the constant stress she inflicted upon him, Hades soon felt his feelings begin to deepen for her. Worried about vocalising his feelings, combined with the stress of both of their roles, Hades chose to keep them to himself. If anyone were to watch him at the exact moment, often one would see the soft and sincere smile he would display just for Minerva, and despite never admitting it out loud, Hades always missed her when she was on her travels. The Final Days were growing closer, and their friendship grew more strained with the pressure of their roles, and Minerva's refusal to be a part of Zodiark's Summoning. When it was voted to forcibly outcast Minerva from the Seat of Azem, Hades fought to overthrow that vote - knowing despite their own disagreements, Minerva's work as Azem was vital for the Star, but his word was overthrown by Lahabrea. Hades volunteered to deliver the news, thinking it would be kinder on her if he did it, but seeing the absolute heartbreak on her face when did would be something that he would regret for the rest of his days. They would not meet again until the Final Days had descended upon Amaurot, where Minerva would return to try and save him and Hythlodaeus both. Their battle after Hythlodaeus' sacrifice would leave them both bloodied and broken with grief. When Hades escaped the Sundering, he watched as his dear friend carried on fighting until her soul was sundered, and he would carry that regret for many lifetimes to come. Working as the Ascian Emet-Selch, he would stumble across every reincarnation and shard of Minerva; recognising the gleam of her aqua soul no matter what form it took, and with every version he found - he would fall for them just as he fell for Minerva.Hades would continue to break his own heart as the shards perished by his own hand to bring about the rejoining - until he faltered when meeting the one reincarnation who would be his downfall - the one who was most like Minerva herself. The Warrior of Light.

'Look at me with a smile in your eyes
No more tears no fears of goodbye
Thankful now for the time that we spent
Dancing our way through the stars.'

Hythlodaeus

Another one of Minerva's most trusted friends, Hythlodaeus worked alongside Hades to always protect and care for Minerva whenever she needed it .When Minerva came to Amaurot to be adopted, Hades and Hythlodaeus watched from a distance, mesmerised by this little girl who looked vastly different to anyone they knew, and with a bright soul that etched itself in both of their memories. The same night, Hythlodaeus decided that both of them should make friends with this strange girl. The initial meeting didn't go exactly as Hythlodaeus planned, as Minerva attempted to keep them away by threatening to fight both of them. Realising that she was just frightened, Hythlodaeus took the lead in softening her hard exterior, and started the friendship that would change all of their lives.Like Hades, Hythlodaeus could see how his soul naturally drifted to Minerva, and came to fully understand this phenomenon as he got older. He also noticed how all three of their souls acted the same way. Threads of gold, aqua and lavender all aching to intertwine amongst one another. Whilst it was more known for this phenomenon to occur between two souls, it was the first time Hythlodaeus witnessed this between three souls. But similar to Hades, Hythlodaeus kept quiet about it as not to ruin his friendship with Minerva.Unlike Hades, Hythlodaeus had no problem with being verbal with his words, and he always knew what to say to comfort this dear friend. This made Hythlodaeus a good mediator, especially when both of his dear friends were at each other's throats because of their inability to communicate properly.Minerva often broke in his office during his shifts, and everyone at the bureau knew better than to stop her. Hythlodaeus didn't mind one bit. When Minerva and Hades' friendship began to get strained because of the pressures of the Convocation, Hythlodaeus found himself worrying more for both of his friends. It tore him apart to see them arguing, especially since he knew his feelings for both Minerva and Hades were changing into something more, but with the increasing tension, he knew better than to bring it up. His heart broke every time he heard they were at each other's throats, and he found himself comforting Minerva more and more when she started coming to his apartment for comfort. One particular night of comfort led to both of them taking things further, and in the midst of the intimate aftercare, Minerva confessed everything about her own feelings. Hythlodaeus confessed his own in response, leading to a deep, heartfelt discussion about it all, including how they both felt about Hades. This is where Hythlodaeus would open up about how all three of their souls would interact, and explain the phenomenon between those destined to be soulmates. Comforted by Hythlodaeus' revelation, he gave a promise that the three of them would talk after they figured out what was causing the Final Days.It would never come, for soon after, Hythlodaeus would hear the news that Minerva defected from the Convocation. Not believeing that his friend would just leave without reason, Hythlodaeus confronted Hades who revealed the truth. Hythlodaeus found his own feelings conflicted - understanding why Hades chose to deliver the news himself, but also feeling anger towards him for deeply hurting the woman they both loved dearly.Unable to contact Minerva, Hythlodaeus worked tirelessly with Hades to help find a solution to stop the Final Days. When the calamity fell upon Amaurot, Hythlodaeus gave up on his dream to return to the Star with his two closest friends, and offered himself up to bring forth Zodiark, despite the desperate protests from Hades. Some time would pass before Hythlodaeus found himself summoned at the edge of the universe alongside Hades, brought forth from the ancient power nestled within the sundered version of their old friend. It would be here, that the Warrior of Light would allow Minerva's soul to finally get a sliver of closure for the two men she yearned for, and promised that one day, the three of them would be together again in another lifetime.
